Dear Fellow Traveler
It has been brought to the attention of the ACA WSO IT Team that some individuals are sending emails to intergroups trying to get them to download suspicious files.
These emails are not sent from ACA WSO, but do mention the ACA WSO office.
It is strongly advised to NOT click the download button as it appears to be an attempt to spread malware.
The emails that some intergroups received look like the following:
From: SendGB.com No-Reply <noreply@sendgb.com>Date: Sun, Mar 16, 2025 at 5:26 AMSubject: aca-office@adultchildren.org sent file(s) via SendGBTo: (intergroup email address)
When inspecting emails look for signs that might indicate that it is not legitimate.
The following signs can be seen with this email:
The sender (noreply@sendgb.com) is not from ACA WSO. NOTE: ACA WSO lets groups know if they are sending out emails from a trusted vendor (eg. zoom invites, election buddy voting).
The email aca-office@adultchildren.org was put into the subject line to try to trick the user that it was sent from this email. Also aca-office@adultchildren.org is not the official ACA WSO office email. The ACA WSO office email is info@acawso.org
WSO has never used a large file delivery service to deliver files to ACA groups. Suddenly doing so would be suspicious.
The file name that was listed was confidential.rar. Not only is the word confidential suspicious, but also the .rar file type is generally not used in professional settings.
If you have any questions you are welcome to contact the WSO office at info@acawso.org or the IT Manager at itmanager@acawso.org
